Is Socorro worth diving now?

Socorro’s oceanic mantas don’t just pass by. They circle, hover over your bubbles and sometimes seem to pick a diver. Dolphins, hammerheads and Galápagos sharks make the trip less dependent on one animal, and February or March can add humpback song.

When is the best time to dive Socorro?

Go in February — March. This calendar does not reward shoulder season: those are the months I would actually spend the money on, not merely months when an operator can run a trip. Open-Pacific sites, a long liveaboard transit and some surge. Bring a warmer suit than “Mexico” suggests.

What will you actually see?

Oceanic mantas, Bottlenose dolphins, Humpbacks, Oceanic sharks are the reasons to make the trip. Wild encounters vary, but the ranking assumes the best months above rather than an average week across the year.
